Core Aeration

Many factors play a role in the overall health and successful growth of your customer’s lawns, but two of the major hindering factors are thatch build-up and soil compaction. As a Spring-Green franchise owner, you provide core aeration services that help reduce thatch and relieve soil compaction to provide your customer with a landscape full of greener and healthier grass.

Thatch occurs at the surface-layer of the soil. When thatch occurs, there is a build-up of intermingled roots, stems and other natural material on the soil’s surface. While some thatch build-up (about ½ inch or less) is desirable to act as protection for your lawn against extreme summer temperatures, thatch exceeding this height will reduce a lawn’s vigor and cause an increase in insects and disease.

Core aeration reduces the effects of thatch build-up. The service removes plugs of soil and thatch to allow more air, water and nutrients to reach the soils root zone. By using core aeration to open up the lawn like this, the turf can see better plant growth. The plugs of soil contain microorganisms that will eventually dissolve and naturally breakdown the thatch layer. The removal of these plugs will also relieve compaction in the soil, allowing it to be oxygenated and fill-in naturally.

Core aeration is one of the many Spring-Green yard services that encourage and help maintain the healthy state of your customer’s lawn.
